Bungie have released the screenshots of Halo 2, yes new screenshots, showing what Halo 2 will look like on Xbox 360. What's different? On Xbox 360 Halo 2 will run at 720p, with full screen anti-aliasing. The same also goes for Halo 1, which will now also play in 720p and this time will support widescreen.
Close up image showing the difference.

Top one Halo 2 on Xbox, bottom one Halo 2 on Xbox 360.

Let me start with this. I had a big arguement with a friend of mine about the Xbox 360. He went to a GameStop and they had a war game demo playing, I think he said it was Call of Duty 2. He said he was not at all impressed with what he saw, yet he is a big PC Fan and he has a pretty powerful PC and PC Graphics card. Now he said that it did not look any different than what he played on the PC. I told him..."Yo!, it's too early to judge the system, and so what, that does not mean the system is to blame, it's the programers behind the game, it all depends on the programers using the tools given to them to make a great game. I understand what he means. I'm not very happy that Microsoft did not have at least an Xbox 360 Exclusive game playing on their demo systems. I told him, it's early, way to early to say, well I will just wait for PS-3 or I would just rather get it for the PC or Xbox.
Now, I look at the pictures above and I say to my self. What the hell makes the difference. Okay, no jagget edges. What I see is a blury version of Halo 2 on 360. I'm trying very hard to understand why... Why is it that Micrsoft focus is on the old stuff. I'm happy that Halo 2 will be a game that will play on 360, it still the same game to me, and it still looks the same. Not too impressive. Bungie should take halo 2, program all the things that they wanted to put the first time when they created the game and release it as Holo 2 Directors Cut, Just like they do for DVD's. Revamp the graphics to show the Xbox 360 Power, put some new levels, Ad some extra stuff and Release the game with a affodable price. It will give us a glimps to what we will see comeing out the Bungie Gate when they start developing Halo 3.
I'm ready for Xbox 360... I have my 106" HD Screen Ready to go. I have my Surround sound waiting. I even took some days off from work just to be there the first night.
It's all about the Box... |

| Not that much of a subsantial difference IMHO - and definitely not worth purchasing again on that end. Looks like a 1080i HD-quality resolution spiffed up version of the Halo 1: Combat Evolved/2 Xbox 1 build -- sure it'll look crisper, there will be less jagged edges with centroid or 14x HDR compliant adaptive FSAA with sparsely sampling pixel edge patterns blending - a greater amount of pixels to lust, but again, nothing worth re-purchasing it for. |

I think a lot of people are missing the point. Upping the resolution of a game and then adding AA isn't that much work.
Those who talk about Bungie revamping the graphics - get real that would involve basically the whole team for several years, the same amout of time it would take to make Halo 3. What would you rather have, Halo 2 revamped or Halo 3?
Those who says the image is blurry it wasn't internally captured (Bungie mentioned this on thier forums). It's a nice bonus for the fans, Halo 1 and 2 in HD, and all for free, they didn't have to do that at all. |

| Paul.... The game Halo 2 is made already, all that is needed is adding some new stuff. It would not take the same amount of time it would take to make Halo 3. Look at Ninja Gaiden Black, it did not take years to make and they revamped that game.. What I said was, it would be nice to see Bungie make Halo 2 with the programing they really wanted to ad in the first place but was not able to, due to limitations of the system. That way,... Paul.... Bungie would give is a look at what Halo 3 may look like. Not to re-write the whole game... God I hate it when people read thing and not get it... GOD.... |

Work on the visual side is the most time consuming part of the game.
The textures would have to be remade, the models remade, the animations remade, the levels remade, the weapons remade the cutscenes remade. The engine would probably have to be rewritten.
If you're going to do all that, give me a new game and not a rehash. |
| by Wester @ 11 November 04:34 |
As would the new Direct3D 9 SM1.x based renderer, and yeah, all those grayscale bitmaps, heightmaps, specular highlights, all those character models that consist of what, a few thousand polygons.... and yeah, the Ragdoll havoc physics system, in place of the Meqon physics if there's going to be PhysX chip support and rehauling it so it's up to SM3.x standards, also meaning HDR rendering, soft-edged stencil shadow volumes, at *least* ten thousand polygon count models, all that map BSP terrain geometry revamped, oh and along with the facial animation bone structures redesigned from ground-up, and the animations being reworked up to par of course.
Delving into such a daunting task is no easy feet. |

Paul is right. Ninja Gaiden Black didn't take too long because you're talking about a game being slightly altered for the same system it came out on. You're not talking about a complete makeover for the graphics engine for a system on which the game was not originally meant to play.
As Paul said, to aptly show what the 360 can do on an exclusive title and show what Halo 3 might look like, every single 3D object in the game would have to be remodelled from the ground up. Then retextured, because applying the original textures to new high-res models would mean that they would be stretched, skewed and generally look awful, if they were usable at all. They would also have to rebuild the HUD. As Paul has already explained, this pretty much accounts for a completely new graphics engine, which would take an astronomical amount of time just for a remake. Why do you think Conker for the Xbox took so long? Because they had to rewrite EVERYTHING for a new system.
Go and e-mail the good folks at Bungie if you want confirmation of any of this. They normally have a little section every so often where they answer people's questions, and I'm sure they'd be happy to set you straight on all of this. |
| by Jon Jon @ 11 November 20:49 |
| yea, you are all right. Just wishful thinking. You get what I mean.... |
| by Fat Zombie @ 11 November 22:43 |
| I get what you mean. I'd like to see full 360 reworks of Halo 2 and Halo 1. That would be awesome. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Bungie will have their hands full with Halo 3. |

| Wicked graphics but as they said they need to revamp and release a directors cut to show the 360s power |
